Baggage Handling Systems at Gatwick Airport

Location

Gatwick Airport, London

Client

Gatwick Airport

In 2019, Building Steel Solutions was involved with the installation of new baggage handling systems at Gatwick Airport, a project that had to run alongside business as usual without interrupting existing services.

Throughout the project, communication was vital to us; we liaised with the contractor, MACE, the client, Gatwick Airport, and the engineers, Baker Hicks and WSP, to find an efficient and safe way to implement the new baggage handling systems.

The airport was still in service while we carried out this project, so careful avoidance of existing services was required to keep the client happy. In order to do this, surveyed the site and prepared 3D models of it in order to ensure that all measurements were correct.

We did this so that we could manufacture and paint steel off-site and transport to the location after fabrication. Our friendly delivery fleet then delivered the steelwork to Gatwick Airport, and our staff carried out the installation.
