Old Thorns Manor Hotel was carried out from 2015 and completed in 2018, adding in structural steel installation services for construction of a wedding chapel, a ballroom, an upstairs reception area, and a function room.
At Old Thorns Manor Hotel, there were two phases of work planned.
The first phase of the project took place in 2015. During this phase, BSS used 3D modelling and our in-house design team to assess and plan for the construction of a wedding chapel, a new 500-seater ballroom with an upstairs reception area, and a function room. During the planning stages, we took part in the provision of structural steel and provided installation services for this phase.
Following this, we were invited to work on the second phase, which consisted of the design and construction of a new 51-apartment block for the hotel containing 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom apartments. Design, creation, and assembly of the steel superstructure alone represented a major project, but BSS also delivered seamless project management on behalf of the client, from design of substructure and superstructure to coordination of all trades, internal setting out, and engineering.
This is perhaps one of the largest and most complex examples of Building Steel Solutions’ work within the hospitality and leisure sector. For this project, our principal contractor services worked with the owners of Old Thorns Manor Hotel and with Roger Hill Architects. This partnership approach delivered an impressive transformation; Old Thorns Manor Hotel is now one of the region’s foremost business, wedding, and party venues with a golf course offering spectacular views across South Downs National Park.
